Where to grow in my garden?

 

A lovely cottage garden plant which is great for a rock garden, sunny border, or mini meadow.

Preferring well-drained soil in full sun.

 

Flowers: July-Sept

Habitat: Grassland, banks, dry, chalky (alkaline) soils.

Height: 15-70cm

Growth Type: Perennial

Position: Full sun

Soil Preference: Well drained/ chalk/ lime, /sand.

    Producing masses of lilac pincushion-like flowers, Small Scabious is an excellent nectar plant for bees and butterflies in late summer and birds take seeds as they ripen.

     

    Highly attractive to butterflies such as peacocks and tortoiseshells and it is a caterpillar food plant of the Marsh Fritillary Butterfly (secondary to Devil's Bit Scabious).

     

    Advised to plant in informal groups to encourage recognition and attract bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects.
